La Finlandia
Era Ottobre 2018 quando abbiamo deciso di lanciarci all'avventura, andando a visitare il terreno che tante volte avevamo visto in foto, incerti sul da farsi, con tante domande in testa e altrettanta paura di commettere un errore gigantesco.
La Finlandia era oramai la meta decisa, agognata e desiderata per la realizzazione dei nostri sogni futuri, ma la scelta del posto non fu cosi semplice. Primo, le uniche cose che sapevamo erano quelle imparate da libri e video su YouTube. Secondo, l'unica parola che conoscevamo in finlandese era “hyvää päivää” (buongiorno). Terzo, non avevamo la minima conoscenza della legislazione, burocrazia o tassazione nordica. Con il senno di poi, possiamo tranquillamente affermare che la dea bendata sia dalla nostra parte per molto tempo.
Decidemmo così di restringere la nostra ricerca nella Finlandia Centrale, per ragioni climatiche favorevoli all'istallazione delle serre che progettavamo di acquistare in futuro. Dopo inumerevoli e-mail e telefonate rifiutate, finalmente qualcuno ci degò di attenzione. Certo, ce lo dovevamo aspettare : un' italiana e un francese residenti a Londra, contattano un'agenzia sparsa nei boschi finlandesi tramite una mail scritta in inglese, con qualche parola finlandese copiata su google translate per impressionarli. Presumibilmente, avevano sentito odore di truffa.
Finalmente, veniamo contattati da un agente molto gentile e disponibile, ma soprattutto curioso e divertito dalla nostra storia. Gli spiegammo cosa cercavamo , e lui ci propose un terreno. Felici, confermammo che si trattava esattamente di quello che avevamo visto sul loro sito web. Concordammo una data e prenotammo i biglietti aerei per Helsinki.
La nostra Odissea iniziò a Londra: solo per raggiungere l' Aeroporto di Gatwick, abbiamo preso un bus, una metro e un treno. L'aereo partiva alle 7 di sera ed siamo atterrati ad Helsinki a mezzanotte. Non essendoci alcun treno in partenza fino alle 5 del mattino, avevamo deciso di dormire in aereporto, trovando inutile lo spreco di denaro in un hotel per sole poche ore. Alle 5:20 di mattina siamo saliti sul primo treno,preparandoci ad un meraviglioso viaggio di quasi 4 ore, tra immense conifere e laghi luccicanti alla luce del sole dell'alba. Arrivammo alla stazione di Jyväskylaä verso le 10 del mattino e, appena scesi dal treno, veniamo investiti da un'aria fresca, pulita e profumata. Altissimi alberi sempreverdi e un'esplosione di colori autunnali ci davano il benvenuto . Noi, così tanto abituati al rumore, alla vita frenetica e agli odori londinesi, ci sentivamo già a casa.
L'agente ci venne a prendere e percorremmo 40 minuti di auto tra alberi, foreste e laghi. Sembravamo due bambini a Disneyland, appiccicati ai finestrini, intenti a registrare più fotografie mentali possibili.
Arrivati alla proprietà, dopo soli 10 minuti di visita, ci siamo scambiati un' occhiata eloquente: doveva essere nostro. Un ettaro di terreno con due immense foreste, a pochi minuti a piedi da una spiaggetta sul lago. Unico problema: 4 vecchi ruderi da distruggere, pieni zeppi di cianfrusaglie e mobili, prima di poter costruire qualsiasi cosa. Ma noi, invece di vederci un ostacolo, abbiamo esclamato : ehi, legna gratuita da ardere!
Girammo estasiati tra i boschi, scoprendo delle vecchie arnie riciclabili, una cantina sotterranea e una costosa stufa a legna,di pietra, in ottimo stato.
Una volta congedati dal nostro amico fidato, con la promessa di risentirci nelle settimane seguenti, saltiamo nuovamente sul treno.
Preventivando di doverci trasferire inizialmente ad Helsinki, decidemmo di passare due giorni in città. E, da bravi turisti, la prima cosa fatta appena lasciate le borse in Hotel, fu stata quella di cercare un ristorante dove assaggiare salmone, renna e alce. Lo trovammo e , ad oggi, dopo due anni, resta il nostro ristorante preferito.
Helsinki ci colpì fin da subito per la sua tranquillità, pulizia e organizzazione, oltre che per la sua bellezza. Eravamo felici all'ennesima potenza.
Durante il viaggio di ritorno, una sola consapevolezza: entro un anno, dovevamo trasferirci.
